POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Advancement is responsible for leading all fundraising, volunteering, and marketing activities for the organization. This role works collaboratively with all levels of leadership and program staff continually develop and implement fundraising and marketing strategies and opportunities. The Director of Advancement is also responsible for leading community development efforts to develop key external alliances by cultivating individual, corporate and philanthropic support while also promoting New Hope’s mission and programs, raising the overall profile of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following major functions describe the essential duties of this job classification. Utilizes the core values as the basis for management, making them part of the recruitment, orientation and training for associates.
Leadership
- Develop and execute annual fundraising strategy and marketing/external relations plan in conjunction with the annual budget and organization strategic plan including the annual Silver Cup Celebration and related activities.
- Provide supervision for the Development Manager and Communications and Engagement Specialist.
- Attend all leadership meetings as part of the executive team.
- Attend board meetings as needed.
- Provide staff support to the Development, Marketing and Silver Cup Celebration board level committees.
- Utilize ethical decision making when choosing among conflicting priorities.
Fundraising
- Achieve annual fundraising goals through the identification, solicitation and retention of donors, grants and financial resources.
- Prepare, write and submit grant applications to foundations and corporations. Work with finance team to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of awarded grants.
- Develop and implement a donor recognition program.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in Network for Good database.
- Regularly communicating with donors at all levels through a comprehensive stewardship plan.
- Understand and comply with appropriate and legal nonprofit fundraising techniques.
Marketing
- Regularly communicate with organization’s constituents about New Hope, keeping them apprised of key happenings and information.
- Tell New Hope story with internal and external audiences through a variety of media sources including print, video, online and the New Hope website.
- Oversee development and distribution of Marketing and Communication collateral.
- Ensure a robust volunteer program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
Education
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred:
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE)
Experience
Required:
- Eight years’ experience working with nonprofit business development, grant writing or fundraising.
- Five years’ experience in a management role.
Preferred:
- Prior experience working with an agency serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or personal relationship with individual with a disability.
- Experience as an executive team member.

Special Training, Licensure or Credentialing
Required:
- Possess a valid Indiana Operator’s License with six points or less.
Personal Skills and Aptitudes
- Must possess strong communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Effective leadership, decision making, problem solving, financial, business writing, and presentation skills.
- Fluency in the Microsoft Suite and knowledge of Network for Good or equivalent database.
WORK SCHEDULE AND LOCATION
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights and weekends as needed.
- May work from home one day per week.
