The Ehlers-Danlos Society is a global community of individuals, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and supporters, dedicated to saving and improving the lives of those affected by the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), and related symptoms and conditions. Overview of Responsibilities
The Head of Corporate and Major Gift Development is primarily focused on reaching outside of our established community to other major individual donors and corporations to bring in funding to support our care, access, research, and education strategic goals. They will lead the execution planning, organization and implementation of this process with the goal to bring in as much funding to support the mission as possible. This will be through proactive cold prospect calls and in-person meetings where appropriate. They will have overall responsibility for achieving the annual fundraising goals for the whole fundraising department. In addition, they will line manage the Community Giving Director and Grants & Foundations Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions
The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Individual Major Gifts
- Identify and prioritize new individual major gift prospects through cold prospect calls.
- Leverage existing relationships and Society staff and Board member networks.
- Create and manage cultivation and solicitation execution plans for individual major gift prospects.
- Manage a portfolio of the organization’s highest capacity major gift donors (current and prospective).
- Support and advise the CEO and the Board of Directors/Trustees, on cultivation and solicitation of major gift donors and prospects.
- In addition to major donors, the Head of Corporate and Major Gift Development will manage all individual donors, current and prospective, at all levels outside of campaigns.
- Design, implement, and/or manage processes for legacy giving, wills, retirement giving, and stock transfers.
Corporate Relations
- Research and identify philanthropic potential within new and existing corporate relationships.
- Create and manage cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship execution plans for corporate prospects.
- Create and manage a portfolio of the organization’s corporate funders (current and prospective).
- Oversee grants process, through the management of the Grants & Foundations Coordinator. Reviewing and approving grant application drafts and submissions, post-award reporting, and stewardship for current and prospective grant-related funders.
Donor Communications
- Oversee creation and implementation of donor communications execution plans, inclusive of stewardship materials that compellingly illustrate the mission, vision, and outcomes of The Society’s work.
- Partner with Communications & Marketing team to create impactful outreach opportunities for fundraising priorities.
- Ensure all in memory of, in honor of, and individual donors, are acknowledged through post and/or email communications.
Board of Directors/Trustees Engagement
- Partner with CEO in managing fundraising-related activities of the Board of Directors/Trustees, including the creation of annual engagement plans for Board members.
- Work with the CEO to ensure board members are engaged and energized by their association with organization.
Department Management & Infrastructure
- Manage and mentor fundraising employees (Community Giving Director and Grants & Foundations Coordinator). Continually review departmental infrastructure to ensure support of the organization's revenue generation goals.
- Effectively manage the fundraising department's day-to-day operations, budget and income forecasts.
- Provide execution planning and marketing support on the full range of external stakeholder communications.
- Develop and implement clear processes, ensuring SOPs are created and maintained for existing and new processes.
- Manage and maintain donor database, ensuring information is accurate and abides by data governance policies.
- Provide monthly departmental reports to President & CEO and ensure departmental dashboards are kept up to date and accurate.
Fundraising Communication Plan & Operations
- Set, monitor, and report on measurable goals for revenue sustainability and growth.
- Partner with CEO and Executive Team to define The Society’s fundraising priorities as related to the organization’s strategic priorities.
- Develop and maintain internal systems that increase transparency and integration of data across the organization. This includes evaluation of existing technology, tools, and processes.
- Work closely with members of the Operations & Finance department to forecast annual revenue goals, perform monthly revenue reconciliation and develop/manage donor reports to maintain accuracy and financial accountability.
Work Environment
Under normal conditions, this role is a fully remote position, working from home. However, due to the international nature of the Society’s work, staff may require regular travel to company events, meetings, and conferences as well as some weekend work.

- Bachelor’s degree, master's degree and/or CFRE required.
- A proven track record in a similar position, ideally within the non-profit sector.
- Experience of working in a sales driven environment.
- A relevant undergraduate degree is required for this role, and a masters would be beneficial.
- Experience of line-managing and developing a team to achieve excellence and meet targets.
- Proven ability to build, manage, and develop key stakeholder, client, and donor relationships.
- Working knowledge of CRM software, preferably N4G and Monday.com.
- Able to work autonomously to take forward and shape areas of work of key strategic significance.
- A creative and entrepreneurial approach, and willingness to innovate and take measured risks.
- Experience in managing fundraising income budgets, forecasting and planning.
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills, including creating written proposals, as well as public speaking and networking with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrates gravitas and credibility in order to represent the organization and build confidence internally and externally.
- Ability to bring energy, enthusiasm, and drive which inspires and motivates others.

- Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to assess, prioritize, and manage a varied and demanding workload.
- Proficient in using MicrosoftOffice applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Monday.com, Aircall, N4G, Zoom & Teams).
- Stable internet connection required for video calls & cloud-based services as this is a fully remote role.
- In person attendance at two staff retreats (1 UK & 1 US based).
- In person attendance at our annual Global Learning Conference, and other events as required from time to time.
