The Office of Research, Outreach, and Economic Development at the University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applications for a Grant Specialist. The Grant Specialist coordinates sponsored program proposal development for an assigned group of academic departments. Job Duties Include: Proposal and Budget Development * Make recommendations on program design, proposal format/editorial style, and proposal budgets that ensure competitiveness and accuracy/compliance of grant submissions. This includes developing proposal outline/checklist; crafting parts of the proposal; editing/revising text written by faculty/staff; working with faculty to develop/revise budget so it is in compliance with fiscal policies and federal regulations, etc. * Assist with development of budgets and/or analyze & review budgets developed by faculty or staff and make recommendations to ensure budgets maximize advantages to the institution, yet afford a competitive edge; ensure budgeted items are clearly aligned with and appropriate for each proposal's scope and activities; ensure that the budget is compliant with UT, federal, and sponsor fiscal policies; ensure that budgeted personnel costs are appropriate; ensure that the correct F&A rate has been applied and calculated; and ensure accuracy in all project budgets. * Review and, as needed, escalate questions related to cost-share, facilities/lab availability, and any other issues that could cause stumbling blocks to award acceptance or project implementation. * Identify potential problems related to: Academic Affairs policies; UTM personnel policies; indirect cost recoveries/allocations; conflicts of interest; human subjects research; intellectual properties; animal welfare; scientific misconduct; OMB and other funder regulations. * Coordinate and assist with the process of securing internal approvals for all proposals using electronic research administration systems and ensuring timeliness of approvals and accuracy of all institutional sponsored project records. * Assist with the submission process for external grants in assigned units, including electronic proposal submission.
Pre-proposal Planning and Capacity Building * Develop and maintain knowledge of department, college, and UT Martin goals, priorities, and needs in order to develop strategies for securing external grant funds. * Develop and maintain knowledge of faculty/staff areas of expertise and related experience in order to develop/implement grant funding strategies for UT Martin. * Inform administrators, faculty, and staff in assigned units and encourage them to pursue appropriate funding and/or research development opportunities. * Develop and implement grant writing workshops and training seminars that improve faculty and staff members' ability to successfully compete for external grant funds. * Coordinate with potential internal & external partners to increase the competitive odds of UT Martin proposals. * Participate in professional development related to sponsored programs research administration
