Under the supervision of the Chief Advancement Officer, the Senior Grants Specialist is responsible for identifying and preparing proposals for grant opportunities that would be appropriate for advancing the mission of Spalding University. A successful candidate will have keen abilities to conduct research into funding opportunities from multiple sources; significant experience developing successful funding proposals from various entities including government (federal, state and local), private foundations, and corporations; significant experience with higher education grant writing; the ability to manage multiple proposals simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines; the ability to analyze data and information from multiple sources and synthesize into a cohesive funding strategy; a desire to work collaboratively across university departments and functions to coordinate grant applications; a love for the work (i.e. grant proposals + deadlines = happiness).

Specific responsibilities for the Senior Grants Specialist include conducting research in order to identify potential sources of grant funding for the University from all types of funding sources; developing, preparing and submitting grant proposals and grant requests, meeting all deadlines; preparing and submitting interim and final reports as necessary for funded activities; working with faculty to identify funding opportunities and facilitate grant applications.
· Identifies grant funding opportunities and program areas to match institutional priorities
· Generates revenues for institutional programs and services through timely submission of well-researched, well-written and well-documented fundraising proposals and grant applications
· Tracks pending grant proposals, and provides follow up as necessary
· Ongoing monitoring of grant budgets and expenditures to ensure targets are met
· Ongoing monitoring of grant program goals and monthly performance
· Facilitates submission of progress and final reports as required by grant-making organizations
· Assists Chief Advancement Officer in supporting and coordinating grant-writing efforts of University faculty
· Coordinates submission of Federal grant applications, providing assistance with all Grants.gov registrations, tracking, etc.
· Takes initiative to identify matches between foundation funding guidelines and university programs, and in turn, markets funding opportunities to faculty
· Actively cultivates and identifies new funding relationships in partnership with the Chief Advancement Officer
· Attends University and community events as appropriate in order to meet and enhance relationships with funders, alumni, donors and potential funders and donors to the University
· Assists in all Office of Advancement activities as needed
· Contributes to the team by working effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds
· Other duties as assigned
· Bachelor’s degree in a related is required, Master’s preferred.
· 3 or more years related grant writing experience, with particular preference for higher education grant writing experience
· Proven track record in grant writing that resulted in funding, including but not limited to grants from federal, state and local governments, private and family foundations and corporations.
· Ability to analyze and systematically compile technical and statistical information and to prepare reports and correspondence; comprehend and make inferences from written material; interpret federal, state, and local government laws and regulations regarding grant contracts and administration; review the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards; communicate orally and in writing with customers, clients or the public; work effectively with a variety of staff, other governmental representatives, and the public; operate a variety of office equipment.
· Able to effectively interact with diverse population of students and faculty
· Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
· Proficiency with donor relationship software
· 3-5 years of experience in higher education, alumni relations or advancement is strongly preferred
· Excellent research, interpersonal, oral and written skills are required to succeed in this position
