The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) Foundation develops and manages resources to enhance the work of LSMSA. The Executive Director of the Foundation directs day-to-day operations, supervises staff (currently 2 FTEs), and oversees all fundraising programs, events, and appeals.
Leadership & Strategy ? Lead annual and long-term strategic planning and goal setting ? Propose and maintain an annual operating budget ? Lead, coach, develop, and retain a high-performance staff and volunteer team ? Plan and lead all Board meetings in collaboration with Board president, including annual weekend retreat ? Identify, recruit, onboard, and engage new board members in collaboration with Governance Com. ? Serve as a liaison with LSMSA leadership and administrative team ? Serve as a representative of the Foundation with the education policy community
Fundraising/Donor Relations/Grants ? Collaborate with the Alumni Association to strengthen relationships and increase alumni giving through annual events ? Collaborate with the Parents’ Council to strengthen relationships and increase giving among parents of students and alumni ? Identify and cultivate major gift prospects, through personal outreach ? Create and oversee regular appeals to existing and prospective donors by mail, email and telephone ? Oversee the timely, appropriate processing and acknowledgement of gifts including pledge reminders, matching gifts, memorial donations and in-kind donations ? Identify relevant grant opportunities with other foundations and corporations, and oversee grant submissions
Operations & Finance ? Maintain internal accounting controls, in partnership with the Foundation’s CPA ? Regularly review office processes and platforms to efficiently support operations, with a focus on finding opportunities to streamline and automate ? Prepare timely annual audit and tax related materials in concert with the Foundation’s CPA and external financial auditors ? Review and distribute monthly and quarterly financial reports to the Board ? Oversee Financial reporting of awarded grants and the disbursement of funds.
Accountability ? Maintain current knowledge of nonprofit/fundraising best practices and legal policies ? Adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics ? Establish and manage portfolio moves management metrics ? Maintain strict donor confidentiality standards and practices ? Foster professionalism, teamwork, and accountability among Foundation staff and volunteers ? Adhere to all Foundation policies including Document Destruction & Retention, Whistleblower, Conflict of Interest, Restricted Gifts, etc. ? Strive for the highest measures of integrity, transparency, and ethics in fundraising
Required Qualifications ? 5+ years of progressive nonprofit leadership experience, including strategic planning, fundraising, financial reporting, communications, event planning, board engagement, and staff management ? Demonstrated experience in portfolio management, cultivation, solicitation of major gifts ($25K+) ? Proficiency with Foundation Directory or GuideStar (Candid) or other prospecting tools ? Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge, eTapestry, or other similar nonprofit databases ? Proficiency with Quickbooks or other accounting software ? Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident public speaker ? Ability to dynamically prioritize and delegate workload under fluctuating conditions ? Willingness to travel regularly, both in-state and throughout the U.S. (Likely cadence: 4 – 6 times per year out-of-state; 4 – 6 times per year in-state); candidates living outside of Natchitoches will be expected to travel to headquarters about once a month ? Willingness to lead a decentralized staff, making strategic use of virtual communication platforms ? Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
Preferred Qualifications ? Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) or eligible ? Experience working with non-profit boards on governance, training, and development ? Experience working on a capital campaign ? Experience working in donor relations and stewardship ? Experience working in an educational setting ? Experience leading a decentralized staff, making strategic use of virtual communication platforms ? Master’s degree in a related field
