The national Planned Giving Officer is responsible for designing and leading an organization-wide comprehensive planned giving program that will increase legacy giving by ensuring donors have confidence that their contributions are having the impact they desire on the lives of people affected by MS, generating $14+ million annually.
Drawing upon a keen understanding of industry best practices and trends, and a strong personal ability to influence and implement plans in a dynamic and collaborative environment, the Planned Giving Officer will strategically engage a pipeline of new and retained?prospects?through a defined portfolio of planned giving donors.?
?This?role?intentionally networks with financial planners and other industry connections to increase acquisition of planned giving donors; actively works a portfolio to create meaningful interactions including gift solicitation and stewardship; actively engages?in?cross-functional?relationship management teams?to develop and support moves management planning for planned giving donors and prospects; and is responsible for collaborating?at the highest?levels, including Market Leaders, the Senior Leadership Team and the legal department, to ensure strategic donor engagement in all facets of the organization.?
?A successful candidate?will be a?detail-oriented, highly energetic professional with a track record of building planned giving donor relationships, closing gifts in the six and seven-figure range and skilled at inspiring, influencing and engaging people.?
Strategic and Operational Direction of Planned Giving Program
Leverage industry knowledge and influencing skills to design and implement a comprehensive planned giving strategy and corresponding annual plans for planned giving donors in collaboration with executive leaders, legal, finance, and development staff
Oversee Lawry Circle, including evaluating its effectiveness as a branded planned giving program
Develop best practices for the planned giving donor engagement and establish policies, systems, and procedures for tracking workflow and interactions within CRM in a timely manner
Offer educational opportunities and planned giving materials for development staff and donors/prospects
Establish planned giving metrics and annual performance goals in partnership with the legal team
Lead Planned Giving Solicitations and Stewardship through active portfolio management
Proactively identify, qualify, assign and track planned giving prospects including developing prospect profiles with recommended engagement strategies to the relationship leads
Identify and manage a portfolio of 75 -- 100 qualified planned giving donors and prospects to ensure positive and purposeful relationship development; set and carry out solicitation strategies, including blended major and planned gifts. Major gift defined as $25K or more.
Lead collaboration with executive leaders, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Technology, Community Leadership and Development to establish, monitor, and improve the Society's approaches to stewardship, including processes involved in the execution of gift acknowledgments and reporting
Coordinate with the Senior Manager of Planned Giving (a paralegal in the Legal Department) who processes bequests, trusts and other beneficiary designations naming the Society.
Collaborate with MGOs to grow market capacity by identifying potential blended gifts (major and planned) and helping establish a strong pipeline for blended gifts
Engage with donors in a variety of ways to identify specific donor interests and deepen their connection to the organization.
Serve as the strategist on the relationship management teams for all $100,000+ planned giving donors and prospects; teams include Market Leaders, legal team, Executive Staff and Volunteer Leadership
Manage a defined pipeline of new and retained planned giving donors through meaningful interactions and execution of appropriate relationship building steps to increase revenue
Partner with the AVP of Mid-Level Giving in the planning and execution of strategies for raising awareness of the Lawry Circle with donors and prospects
Leverage national donor cultivation and stewardship opportunities to increase meaningful donor interactions.
Provide a high degree of discretion and strong ability to represent the Society, engaging in meaningful dialogue with planned giving prospects and donors.
Administration and Fiscal Responsibility
Actively record and upload interactions into CRM for all assigned donors
Oversee qualification of planned giving prospects and lead portfolio management, ensuring team assignments are regularly updated
Regularly review and maintain fluency in team budgets, financial reports, and other meaningful reports to help ensure the team is meeting revenue and performance goals.
Pull defined reports from the reporting system
Ensure executive readiness for donor engagement opportunities by making key relationship assignments, preparing donor briefings with moves management plans and capturing all notes in CRM and in debrief materials.
Meet or exceed agreed upon key planned giving activity metric goals and have comfort with monthly and quarterly measurement toward these goals
Analyze planned giving revenue trends to assess results and implement strategic changes accordingly

Bachelor's degree required
7-10 years progressive planned giving fundraising experience with a track record for closing gifts and articulating a case for giving
Ability to create and utilize donor prospecting and management tools including CRM software, Wealth Engine, moves management, donor briefing documents, etc.
Proven ability to identify new prospects, build and maintain strong relationships with donors and develop strategies for cultivation and stewardship
Identify, assess and analyze specific areas of donor interest and level of potential engagement with the Society
Work closely with Major Gift Officers, Mid-level Giving Directors, market leaders, board members, and staff to map out specific plans for stewardship
Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and solid judgment in communication with a proven ability to think strategically and influence others
Record of effective relationship development, collaboration, and negotiation with a wide variety of positions and personalities
Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and execute business processes and communications strategies
Keen attention to detail with the ability to track multiple projects at one time
Commitment to data-entry and record-keeping as a cornerstone to delivering data-driven results
Maintain an appropriate level of understanding of multiple sclerosis and be thoroughly familiar with the Society's programs, initiatives, and funding needs.
Experience with Salesforce (preferred) or equivalent CRM database.
Strong computer skills: MS Office XP -- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Database/Reporting tools, Outlook and Internet.
Ability to use GoToMeeting and lead web-based presentations.
