Assumes primary responsibility for the offices of Advancement, Corporate Engagement and Alumni Affairs and provides staff leadership to personnel therein.
Manages the corporate relations and workforce development effort.
Is accountable for all philanthropic financial goals of the college.
Manages the advancement aspects of capital projects.
Acts as key decision-maker in all aspects of College Advancement, including strategy, planning, infrastructure systems, personnel, performance evaluation and other tasks as assigned by the President.
Develops and manages the principal gifts portfolio (gifts of $100,000 and more), which include individuals, corporations, and foundations. Involves the President in appropriate principal gifts cultivation and solicitation.
Serves as lead staff for capital campaigns; devising and executing far-reaching strategies and keeping college constituencies aligned with campaign objectives.
Serves as a staff liaison to the Engagement Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Serves as a college leader by providing strategic input to the cabinet and others.
Works collaboratively with administrators, trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the President.
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in development, including a proven track record of identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gift relationships.
Supervisory and managerial experience at the executive level, preferably in a higher education setting.
Experience in a non-profit setting (ideally higher education) either as a professional or at the Board level is preferred.
An understanding of the principles and processes of corporate, foundation, and alumni giving with the ability to advance new messages, strategies, and standards of giving that will excite
philanthropic and partnership constituents.
Possesses contagious vision - the ability to think and plan strategically with a creative, adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit.
Comprehensive capital campaign experience is preferred.
Established track record of soliciting and closing five, six and seven figure gifts from a national pool.
Demonstrated experience with prospect research; gift processing software; online giving strategies; traditional and new media and other emerging technologies that will optimize Paul Smith’s College
Outreach to potential supporters.
Excellent speaking and writing skills are essential. Proven capacity to develop and write high-level, compelling proposals and quickly synthesize complex ideas and align them with funder priorities.
Demonstrated experience and success managing, motivating, and mentoring volunteers and advancement professionals, bringing out the best in teams and individuals.
Be creative, resourceful, innovative and exhibit the ability to exercise leadership and function in a team-oriented environment.
Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to negotiate realistic time frames for the completion of tasks and projects.
Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as required.
