Action for Healthy Kids fights childhood obesity, undernourishment and physical inactivity by helping schools become healthier so kids can live healthier lives. AFKH’s partners with a legion of dedicated volunteers - teachers, students, moms, dads, school wellness experts and more- from within the ranks of their 100,000+ networks to create healthful school changes. AFHK was founded in 2002 and today is a leader in the national movement to improve child health, working at the federal and state levels and in school districts and school buildings nationwide. Headquartered in Chicago, near Union Station, AFHK has a budget of $6 million, a staff of 20 and 20 state coordinators.
The Chief Development Officer will be responsible for fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and ambitious salesmanship within the organization and works to assure that the organization’s culture, systems and procedures support development activities. The Chief Development Officer will plan, coordinate and implement strategies to develop all revenue streams to support AFHK’s continued growth. This will include, but not limited to: institutional fundraising, including corporate, foundation and public support; individual fundraising; earned revenue streams; social enterprise ventures and fundraising events.
Ten or more years experience with demonstrated success and track record in development, nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, direct mail and development office functions including gift processing prospect and donor histories and fundraising report.
Demonstrated experience and confidence in asking people to contribute time and money.
Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a comprehensive development program.
Personality and energy to increase AFHK’s and its programs visibility on a national level.
Demonstrated staff and team-building skills. Ability to manage and motivate staff to advance the mission of the organization.
