The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for a portfolio of 125-150 major ($25,000+) prospects and donors. The Major Gifts Officer shall identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals (alumni, parents, and friends of Adelphi) who can support the programs of the University and will aim to meet annual expectations for philanthropic income produced, personal visits, and other actions with donors and prospects.
We seek an experienced, outgoing, professional who will develop and execute strategies and detailed Moves Management ™ plans for prospects as well as refine and/or develop gift opportunities for major gift prospects and donors in accordance with the priorities of Adelphi’s strategic plan. Responsibilities include participation in prospect screening and strategy sessions with University Advancement and Alumni Relations staff and qualifying prospects and their ability and willingness to provide philanthropic support for Adelphi. The selected candidate will conduct 125-150 personal, face-to-face visits per year, focusing on prospects with the greatest capacity to give and who are closest to a gift decision and documenting all activities in the University Advancement CRM. Some reporting, tracking and forecasting on results also required.
We seek candidates with strong managerial skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and creatively solve problems. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success in face-to-face solicitations. Occasional night and weekend work may be required and some travel. Bachelor’s Degree required with five to seven years of progressively responsible experience securing major gifts, experience in working with volunteers and with Raiser’s Edge (preferred) or similar CRM required. Knowledge of and familiarity with Moves Management ™ preferred. Master’s Degree or professional certification (e.g. CFRE) and experience in higher education fundraising preferred.
