Overture’s Vice President of Development plays a key role in building partnerships; allowing us to engage our community in over 200,000 extraordinary artistic experiences every year. Under the direction of and in collaboration with the President & CEO, the Vice President of Development is responsible for providing vision, leadership and management to assigned development programs and staff, participating in organization-wide leadership initiatives as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, and managing a portfolio of top donors and prospects.
The Vice President of Development’s purpose is to:
Effectively lead the Development team and participate in efforts to achieve an annual multi-million-dollar fundraising goal
Act as a collaborative member of the Executive team to advance the overall goals of the organization
Lead efforts related to Overture’s Endowment Campaign
Manage the direction and execution of work to achieve annual development goals
Minimum of five years of related professional, progressive experience in fundraising for a major institution
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and related experience
CFRE certification and membership in a professional fundraising association preferred
Minimum of 3 years supervising professional staff with the ability to coach and mentor others in order to develop fund-raising capability within the organization
Ability to establish high standards and to organize as well as motivate others to achieve fund-raising objectives
Considerable ability in major fundraising projects and the ability to articulate the importance of the arts within the Madison community and beyond.
Experience with fundraising and CRM databases highly desirable
Ability to identify and cultivate new donors and sources of support from individuals, corporations and foundations
Willingness to explore alternative avenues to identify donors and achieve development goals
Ability to translate ideas into comprehensive fund-raising and development plans
Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including public speaking skills
A record of complete honesty, integrity, a keen sense of protocol and reputation for ethical and conscientious conduct.
Calculated risk taker as evidenced by being an initiator of new ideas and actions; and careful evaluation.
Diplomacy to reach common ground and build alliances.
Excellent managerial skills with a reputation for being flexible, enthusiastic, and the ability to actively listen to differing opinions.
