UAMS is seeking a candidate with an engaging and effective leadership style for the position of Director of Development, to partner with the energetic, visionary leadership of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Lance Burchett, Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement; and Brigitte Grant, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor of Development (SAVC) to take the philanthropic support of UAMS to the next level.
The ideal candidate will exhibit superior relationship-building skills and expertise in cultivating and securing major gifts in support of the mission of UAMS; will have experience motivating and engaging a high-performing team of employed staff and volunteers, while successfully navigating the complexities of a large hospital system or academic medical center. The successful candidate will be a well-seasoned, metrics-driven fundraising leader, experienced in gracious patient and family engagement, with an affinity for the mission of UAMS Institutions.
The Role of the Director of Development
The Director of Development serves as a Major Gift Officer for the University, dedicated to the cultivation of relationships with prospective donors and solicitation of gifts in support of the UAMS mission. The Director maintains a portfolio of prospective Major Gift donors, including alumni, patients and friends of the University.
The director of development is the champion of teamwork and support for the diverse combination of education, research, and clinical programs that is unique to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) collaborative health care organization, advancing the mission of improving patient care and the quality of life for Arkansans
Manage a portfolio of 100 prospects and donors with primary focus on major gifts of $50,000 and above. Successfully engage with donors in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Attain monthly and annual metrics for in-person contacts, proposals and funds generated. Develop a moves management plan for each prospect. Develop and maintain strong relationships with University leaders and faculty, staff and volunteers to cultivate relationships and solicit major gifts. Prepare written proposals and briefing materials for major gift solicitations personalized for donor interest in collaboration with unit leadership and IA development.
In partnership with the Executive Director of Planned Giving, cultivate, close and steward planned gifts. Work with Director of Corporations & Foundations to research, organize and assemble corporate and foundation grant applications. Seek consultation on major gift proposals and all gift agreements with the Senior Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development Administration.
Provide coordination of appropriate fundraising materials including, but not limited to, case statements, brochures, solicitation letters, major gift proposals, and campaign status reports, working with Institutional Advancement and the UAMS Office of Communications and Marketing.
Manage annual giving program through consultation with Director of Annual Giving Programs.
A Baccalaureate degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field plus 5 years of demonstrated successful experience fundraising or related experience, preferably in raising major and mid-level gifts in an educational, research or healthcare setting. Outstanding oral and written communication skills are necessary. An individual who is highly organized, creative, energetic, and one who exhibits character, excellent judgment and personal integrity is seen as an ideal candidate. The individual selected will be a team player, able to work all levels with multiple constituencies, both internal and external. CFRE and/or an advanced degree are preferred. Knowledge of current tax laws and other laws relating to gifts, solicitations and fundraising in general is a plus.
