The Development Director is a high-impact and fast paced position that helps set the direction of all APA Foundation (Foundation) development activities and staff related to corporate, foundation, and individual giving and accountable for the overall business strategy. The incumbent ensures the health of the institution and is expected to be a competent fundraising technician and an excellent organizational development specialist. The Development Director is expected to translate broad goals into achievable steps, help set and manage appropriate expectations, handle detailed, complex concepts and problems, and make rapid decisions regarding management and development issues; plan and implement programs. As a member of the Foundation’s senior management team, the Development Director must establish strong and appropriate relationships with the ED, staff, board, volunteers, donors and the general community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Creates and sustains a culture of philanthropy within the Foundation to assure the Foundation’s corporate culture, systems and procedures support fund development and vice versa, and leads administration/volunteers to institutionalize philanthropy and fund development.
- Collaborates with the Foundation ED and administration to develop, maintain, and implement annual and long-term development plans including strategies to increase individual giving, corporate sponsorship/grants, foundation grants, online giving, special event attendance, gift processing, reporting, and other methods focused on maintain and maximizing all fundraising activities.
- Manages special events, corporate/foundation contributions, individual giving, and fundraising-based communications.
- Directs strategy for member solicitations/stewardship; corporate/foundation engagement; budgeting and revenue forecasting; prospect/APA member development; and brand/marketing development.
- Responsible for developing and implementing a National Business development strategy that will increase revenue streams and sponsor base.
- Participates with the ED, administration, and BOD to define the organization’s mission and direction and to develop/maintain a Foundation Development Plan to support its mission and direction.
- Provides general oversight and direction for the Foundation’s fund development activities, manages the day-to-day operations of the development function, and monitors adequacy of activities through coordination with staff, appropriate committees, and the board of directors.
- Designs and assures implementation of cost-effective fund development programs, employing economy while maintaining an acceptable level of quality and solid return on investment.
- Provide strategic planning and oversight management of a personalized, high-level, annual giving program to expand donor awareness of the Foundation.
