Executive Bridge has been retained by Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri (“PPSLRSWMO”) www.plannedparenthood.org/stlouis to recruit the new Vice President of Development (“Head of Development”). PPSLRSWMO has been the leading provider, educator, and protector of sexual and reproductive healthcare in the area for more than 85 years. This organization currently operates eight health centers, located in the St. Louis metropolitan area and Southwest Missouri, and one outpatient surgery center in St. Louis. With a total staff of 160, an annual operating budget of $10M and a dedicated Board, PPSLRSWMO is one of the most respected organizations in public health and medical circles.
The Head of Development reports to the President/CEO of PPSLRSWMO. The executive team consists of five other direct reports to the President/CEO – the Heads of Administration and Compliance; Finance and Operations; Patient Services and Research; Education, Policy and Community Engagement; and Marketing and Communications. This team provides the strategic direction, thoughtful implementation, accurate communication, and successful achievement of all aspects of the organization. Reporting to the Head of Development are four positions – the Director of Development Operations and Annual Fund; Donor, Data and Research Associate; Grants and Administration Development Officer; and Special and Community Events Coordinator. The Development team is responsible for all fundraising and donor cultivation efforts for the organization as well as future capital campaigns – all with the goals of advancing the organization's position with relevant constituents and to drive financial support for the organization. Currently the Development team oversees a fundraising budget of over $3MM of which approximately $500k is comprised of 30 to 40 grants per year. Annual and long-term plans include annual giving and friends’ programs, grant research and writing, major gifts, planned giving and endowment programs, as well as numerous events throughout the year. The Head of Development works extensively with the Board and the Board Development Committee to solicit major gifts. The Head of Development is also responsible for overseeing all aspects of the department including proper tracking and documentation through the Donor Perfect fundraising software system.
The successful candidate will have a passion for reproductive and sexual healthcare and education and will be a proven leader whose fundraising career demonstrates a track record in raising major gifts. Qualifications include:
A minimum of five years of experience in development/fundraising with a strong preference for a graduate degree, CFRE and experience in the not-for-profit area.
Known for visionary, results-oriented approach. Sound strategic thinking, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to bring creativity and innovation to the implementation of a development strategy. Enthusiasm, energy, and commitment to continuously improve and drive the organization forward
Substantial fundraising experience and/or direct oversight of development functions including major gifts, planned giving, grants and annual campaigns. Proven track record in donor cultivation and community stewardship both as an individual, team leader and in partnership with a board and its relevant committees. Experience with fundraising software. Experience with capital campaigns considered a plus. Must understand how to cultivate next generation supporters.
Knowledgeable regarding the specific challenges facing health care organizations.
Recognition as a skillful relationship developer and known as a collaborative, team player and strong work ethic. Proven strengths with sophisticated, high net worth audience.
Strengths in hands-on management. Able to recruit, develop and retain employees.
Demonstrated communications skills in oral and written formats. Confident public speaker.
Strong commitment to the mission, goals and values of Planned Parenthood and the ability to communicate those goals and agency values to employees, volunteers, applicants and donors.
Analytical, strategic, pragmatic, transparent, action-oriented. Must be strong in relationship development especially at the board level.
Self-sufficient in all office software, data base and presentation tools.
