Summary of the Position
Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Principal Gifts Officer is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of donors and prospective donors. Travel is required.
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:
Must embrace and demonstrate a deep and committed understanding of the mission and vision of Regent College and must be able to subscribe to Regent College’s Theological Position (which includes a Doctrinal Statement and a Moral Vision Statement)
The ability to communicate with theological sophistication and thoughtfulness
An understanding of generosity and giving, and the role it plays in our lives
Is highly relational, displaying warmth and discretion
A professional demeanour with strong emotional intelligence
Is patient, polite, tactful and sensitive to respond to donors’ interests and concerns
Has a persuasive, respectful, and gracious approach, and is comfortable in asking for donations
Enjoys being part of a team but also possesses a high level of self-motivation, initiative and an independent work ethic
Is well organized with attention to detail and deadlines
Has superior oral and written communication skills
Is process-focused with attentiveness to results and the ability to achieve goals
University graduation a minimum; relevant graduate education is an asset, as is CFRE designation or a Fundraising Management Certificate. Graduate studies in Bible or Theology are considered an asset
Fundraising or highly relevant experience is required
Has working knowledge of computer-based data systems and general office software
Manage a portfolio of at least 100 individuals—consisting of donors, prospective donors, and regional alumni.
Under the direction of the Director of Advancement, conduct an agreed-upon number of donor contacts, including but not limited to discovery meetings, cultivation visits and stewardship opportunities; and make an agreed-upon number of gift solicitations; record all actions, planned actions, and notes in our database in a timely fashion.
Create individual strategies and timelines for cultivating and soliciting each person in your portfolio; report all gifts (anticipated and realized) and acknowledge the donors with appropriate thanks and recognition.
Participate as a member of the Advancement Team in our work to engage donors and alumni through written appeals, foundation proposals, stewardship reports, special events, and other College-wide opportunities.
Working with our Alumni & Church Involvement Officer, identify alumni and future alumni for prospective giving.
Advise the Director of Advancement about new prospects you've met and/or identified from referrals for the purpose of augmenting or revising your portfolio of donors.
Write proposals and stewardship reports for prospective donors (as needed).
Host events and dinners aimed at introducing people to Regent, cultivating relationships with prospective donors, and strengthening relationships with current donors.
Attend networking or fundraising events, which may be in the evening, weekends or early mornings.
Complete all required expense reports and other administrative duties.
