Founded in 1919 Junior Achievement's purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement USA reaches almost 5 million students kindergarten through high school annually in relevant, hands-on learning experiences that teach young people to manage their money, plan for their economic future, own their own businesses, and develop readiness for careers or college. This is done through in-school, after school, and online learning experiences working with nearly 250,000 corporate and community volunteers. Currently, Junior Achievement USA is undertaking a seminal transformation to a blended learning delivery model which will further enhance student experiences in a contemporary learning environment. Junior Achievement USA is the national office for a federated organization comprised of 109 JA Areas.
The Vice President of Development position is responsible for directing the fund raising activities for the JA USA National Office in the areas of corporate philanthropy, cause-related marketing, board giving, and fund raising. The position will assist the SVP - Development with Board, JA Area, President, and donor interaction and requests. The position may directly and/or indirectly supervise staff.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Creates new funding sources through strategic philanthropy. Responsible for proactively identifying new funding sources and opportunities in the corporate marketplace including cause-related marketing (in coordination with Marketing Team).
Generates income related to JA USA renewal partnerships, including prospect identification and donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Designs board/associate training, campaign marketing, and financial tracking as requested.
Prepares cash flow revenue/expense projections for major projects. Works with other JA USA Groups to define project budgets, track revenue and expense associated with the project/campaign. Works in full coordination with JA USA Groups and affiliates to develop budget, implementation schedules, and to define project outcomes and evaluation methods. Manages gap to goal reporting on ongoing basis.
Works directly with senior management to facilitate project/proposal development in pursuit of major gifts.
Develops fund raising plans, marketing, cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Directs prospect research; manages Board and affiliate involvement. Evaluates funding potential and implications globally, nationally and locally; coordinates accountability and leads these efforts.
Seeks major gift opportunities via comprehensive alliances with new corporations, some of which are headquartered outside the U.S.
Assists the SVP Development via participation in, or solo responsibility of, phone and/or face to face meetings with JA Area Presidents, JA Area Boards, and potential donors.
Supports the SVP-Development in identification of board prospects, recruitment, cultivation and nomination. Works directly with Board members to engage them in the fund raising process, specifically for major/capital gifts. With SVP-Development prepares materials and activities related to Development Committee meetings and engagement.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned or requested.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or other related field. Equivalent education or experience may be substituted.
A minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated successful fund-raising experience and overall fund raising management, with particular emphasis on major gifts. Equivalent education or experience may be substituted.
Demonstrated experience on staying relevant with emerging trends in corporate philanthropy and cause-related marketing.
Demonstrated successful experience working with and managing high-level volunteers.
Solid understanding of relational databases. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Strong staff management skills.
Ability to travel 25-50% of the time.
Excellent attention to detail; oral, written, and organizational skills.
