This position provides strategic leadership in fund development to advance the YMCA mission to position the Y as a “charity of choice” for the investment of community donations and potential collaborators.
Creates Systems and Strategies - And manages resources needed to carry out the fundraising plans. Establishes and monitors the fund development department budget for the YMCA. Develops appropriate fundraising policies and procedures for the association. Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of fund development.
Develops Others - Educates, motivates and provides feedback to volunteers and staff related to best practices in fundraising. If applicable, hires, trains, evaluates, oversees department staff.
Innovation & Growth - Identifies untapped funding opportunities, prospects, grants, fund development programs, and concepts.
Increases Community Awareness of YMCA Mission - Coordinates fund development communications within the association to ensure members, participants, and the community understands the case for support.
Donor Cultivation and Relationship Building – Accomplishes the ongoing identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gift prospects.
Annual Fundraising – Accomplishes the approved goals and objectives related to year-round fundraising as reflected in the annual budget. This is inclusive of, but not limited to, corporate gifts, EITC, foundation funding, local/state/federal grants, high profile and major gifts, etc.
Stewardship - Accomplishes stewardship, relationship creation, and the positive grooming of existing key donors and stakeholders.
Balances Personal Fundraising Role with Association Development – Manages time and resources effectively to produce the best association advancement, as agreed upon by supervisor.
Record Keeping, Reporting, Tracking Trends – Oversees the donor Tracks all gifts and pledges by source and purpose and provides reports as needed. Monthly reports to board and CEO.
Represents the Association – In the community to further the fund development objectives. As requested with various committees. And with the staff team members.
Capital Campaign fundraising in tandem with the CEO.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
Eight or more years of professional experience with a background in fund raising in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred, including an established track record of cultivating, soliciting and closing donors.
CFRE or equivalent.
Expectations of high level of professionalism, ability to perform under deadline, multi-task, management and group leadership skills, and high degree of organization.
Analytical and critical thinking skills; must be flexible and able to multi task.
Ability to communicate and relate to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community, and ability to strongly influence others.
Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
Ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
Knowledge of the media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs.
Foundation and government grant writing expertise.
