The primary responsibility of the Vice President, Leadership Giving is to organize, implement, and monitor programs and activities designed to secure significant financial contributions (>$25k) from individual donors and family foundations to meet or exceed annual revenue goals. In this role, the VP, Leadership Giving will:
Develop and execute an effective strategy to advance leadership giving to the agency;
Manage a staff of over 40 including Regional Development Directors, the Director of Family Foundations & Philanthropy and the Major Gifts Donor Engagement team;
Engage agency executives, board members and donor volunteers in the fundraising process;
Maintain a small portfolio of high end donors;
Maximize the effectiveness of the Leadership Giving Department by continually enhancing productivity, efficiency and donor satisfaction.
Serve as a senior leader within Charitable Giving, including engagement with agency strategy, staff engagement initiatives and collaborating cross-divisionally across the agency.
1. Develop and Implement Strategy
a) Create and execute the Leadership Giving Department strategies to achieve revenue goals. Shape, articulate, and oversee the implementation of strategies to increase the number of donors making leadership gifts to the agency. Develop an integrated strategic growth plan for the Leadership Giving department that is well-coordinated with and integrated into the overall agency strategy as well divisional growth plans to ensure effective collaboration with other parts of Charitable Giving as well as U.S. Operations and Overseas Operations. Optimize utilization of existing giving products through the Giving Continuum and develop new products that are aligned to both agency and donor needs as opportunities emerge and external trends indicate.
b) Determine and monitor the department's key performance indicators such as revenue goals; expected solicitations, substantial donor face-to-face visits, gifts from existing and new products as well as unit and individual activities and progress toward goals;
c) Improve performance evaluation systems to provide detailed and accurate data that is timely and optimal for revenue forecasting;
d) Optimize utilization of the Opportunities Management system that operationalizes departmental procedures and policies, best practices and processes for activities such as portfolio assignments, reporting, use of resources and prospect development;
e) Develop strategies for donor engagement utilizing a variety of methods, including international travel, face-to-face meetings, online, print and video materials for regional and national events, advisory councils and recognition activities;
f) Manage Leadership Giving department budgets.
g) Engage in overall agency strategy development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
2. Lead the Leadership Giving Department
a) Provide leadership and guidance to the Leadership Giving department of 40+ staff.
Provide direct supervision of leaders of teams of Regional Development Directors who are based throughout the U.S.;
Mentor and advise individual Regional Development Directors in partnership with team leaders;
Oversee shaping and implementation of performance plans for all Regional Development Directors;
Work with team leaders of Regional Development Directors, the VP Individual Giving and the Analytics team to identify and cultivate prospects;
Direct the Leadership Donor Engagement and Family Foundation & Philanthropy functions to achieve superior engagement of donors and collaboration with internal partners to maximize the potential of each area;
Oversee the work of professional and support staff involved in the implementation of multi-component fundraising programs;
b) Ensure that all department staff meet or exceed all activity standards for prospecting calls, face-to-face donor visits, cultivation and stewardship actions and solicitations;
c) Utilize and build upon systems that provides ongoing coaching, mentoring and counseling with Leadership Giving staff to build motivation and fundraising skills;
d) Create a positive working environment;
e) Serve on agency committees as a representative of the department and division;
f) Travel to meet with donors, staff and partners as needed in order to develop key relationships.
g) In collaboration with Human Resources, lead staff engagement efforts for the Leadership Giving department.
h) Lead efforts to build, model and improve inter-divisional collaboration of Leadership Giving team within Charitable Giving and across the agency.
3. Engage Board Members and Donor Volunteers
a) Provide leadership guidance to board members and other volunteers who assist in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors and prospects, especially the CRS Foundation Board;
b) Identify and manage the cultivation of leadership prospects with substantial philanthropic capacity, involving agency leadership and volunteers in the process;
c) Collaborate with agency leadership to create viable giving opportunities for leadership and major donors, especially through the Giving Continuum;
d) Work with donor volunteers and other staff to create and develop programs that serve to deepen donor affinity for CRS;
4. Improve Departmental Effectiveness
a) Enhance the effectiveness of Leadership Giving department's productivity, efficiency and ability to deliver donor satisfaction;
b) Build a strong partnership with Individual Giving department especially the Impact Circle program as well as the Annual Giving and Planned Giving teams;
c) Partner with Donor Services to utilize the existing customer relationship management database and to identify and implement new technology and improve existing technology based on business needs;
d) Support the development of infrastructure and systems that enable the success of the Leadership Giving department to exceed donor expectations and contribute to a high level of donor satisfaction;
e) Anticipate and react quickly to trends and changes in performance;
f) Maintain professional and fundraising knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; extending personal networks and participating in professional societies.

Key Working Relationships
Internal: President & CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Vice President Individual Giving, All Charitable Giving Units, CG Executive Assistant, Executive Office, U.S. Operations, Overseas Operations, Finance and Human Resources.
Bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum of ten (10) years' experience in fundraising with considerable experience and success in capital gifts/major gifts campaigns.
Proven ability to design, implement and assess the success of a multi-year strategy for building a major gift program.
Demonstrated success managing a diverse donor portfolio and securing six- and seven-figure major gifts from individuals and foundations.
Demonstrated ability to build, foster and maintain relationships in the leadership giving process with both internal and external constituencies including executives, board members and donor volunteers and prospects
Experience leading and managing a major gifts team with a strong track record as an effective, team-oriented leader and a thoughtful, diplomatic mentor to major gifts fundraisers.
A strong understanding of individual giving fundraising and how to work collaboratively with the individual giving team to systematically identify and cultivate major donor prospects from the individual giving donor pool.
Understanding of and experience with prospecting, reporting, acknowledgement, and stewardship systems, as well as database management.
Knowledge of planned giving practices and relevant instruments.
Demonstrated success maintaining an enterprise-wide perspective and utilizing strong analytical skills to maximize return on investment.
