Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is seeking an experienced philanthropy professional with a passion for children's literacy. The Director of Philanthropy & Corporate Fundraising will create, execute and evaluate all philanthropy strategies to ensure a diverse and sustainable revenue portfolio to support RIF's mission. Candidate is responsible for the oversight, planning and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program that secures significant financial resources from foundations, corporations, and community organizations to in support of children's literacy. Experience in Capital Campaigns highly desired and experience in Transformational Giving (7+ figures) is a plus.

The Director of Philanthropy & Corporate Fundraising will:
Have a comprehensive understanding of foundation and corporate fundraising; identifying strategies; prioritizing opportunities; managing the creation of value propositions; packaging programs; creating reports, templates and tools: providing strategic advisement that deepens foundation relationships and supports the field and overall channel success.
Identify and leverage opportunities to triangulate relationships with prospects and donors, including cross-functionally within Marketing and Development and with RIF leadership, board members, and volunteers.
Create and effectively manage RIF's donor communications plan to build a consistent brand and to develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders.
Plan and implement effective and innovative foundation and corporate cultivation, stewardship, outreach events & activities.
Regularly evaluate the philanthropic strategy and operating plan and make recommendations based on experience and a deep understanding of the organization's strategic goals.
Focus on long-range strategic priorities, seeking to raise multi-year commitments
This position serves as a member of the Marketing and Development team assisting, when necessary, with other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience:
Bachelor's degree and 8+ years professional experience in philanthropy required, ideally in education, literacy or an organization that serves children.
Demonstrated ability to build a culture of philanthropy within an organization and to enthusiastically and successfully engage in corporate and foundation solicitation.
Proven success in writing grant proposals, asking for and closing donations, and building and maintaining long-term relationships with foundations and corporations.
A successful track record in executing on strategy, setting priorities, managing multiple projects and working effectively under pressure to achieve individual and organizational goals.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, reliable and flexible; thrives in a fast-paced environment; a driving force who manages toward clarity, finds solutions and is able to think strategically about the organization.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to listen to and balance, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
A consummate team player with a flexible, collaborative and creative approach who can lead from behind and empower teammates to contribute their best.
Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
Recognized credential in the development field (e.g., CFRE, GPC, or equivalent) preferred
